Boost For Maritime Operations

– As GPHA commissions state-of-the-art multi-purpose vessel
THE Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has commissioned a state-of-the-art multi-purpose vessel at the Port of Tema, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s maritime industry.
The vessel, named MPV Gordon Anim, is a cutting-edge addition to the country’s maritime and logistics infrastructure. It is expected to enhance the operational capabilities of Ghana’s ports while ensuring safety and sustainability in the maritime domain.
The vessel is named after Mr. Gordon Anim, a distinguished figure in Ghana’s maritime sector who dedicated 35 years of service to the GPHA. Mr. Anim rose through the ranks to become the Director of both the Tema and Takoradi Ports.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Anim expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the GPHA board, management, and staff for the honor, acknowledging their recognition of his contributions to the sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of GPHA, Michael Achagwe Luguje, the Director of the Port of Tema, Sandra Opoku, described the event as a moment of pride and fulfillment.
She emphasized that the vessel’s commissioning reflects the growth and dynamism of Ghana’s port industry, driven by GPHA’s unwavering commitment to operational excellence and sustainable practices.
“The MPV Gordon Anim is designed to handle a wide range of maritime operations, including oil spill responses, hazardous material containment, and waste collection at sea,” Ms. Opoku stated.
She further highlighted that the vessel’s advanced technology and versatile capabilities align with GPHA’s mission to embrace innovation and sustainability in maritime trade.
Supporting Environmental and Operational Efficiency
The Director of the Port of Takoradi, Peter Amo-Bediako, also shared his optimism, expressing confidence that the new vessel would significantly contribute to the success of GPHA.
The MPV Gordon Anim is expected to address environmental and operational challenges, improving the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of activities at the Ports of Tema and Takoradi.
The commissioning of the vessel reinforces Ghana’s position as a leading maritime hub in the West African sub-region.
