Nvidia unveils next-generation RTX 50-series gaming chips at CES

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang introduced the company’s latest gaming chips, the RTX 50-series, during his keynote address at the CES technology show in Las Vegas. The chips, powered by Nvidia’s advanced Blackwell artificial intelligence (AI) technology, promise to deliver movie-quality graphics and twice the speed of their predecessors.

The RTX 50-series chips, priced between $549 (£438) and $1,999, aim to revolutionize gaming with real-time rendering capabilities. A live demonstration during the event showcased stunningly detailed graphics, impressing attendees with the seamless integration of textures and movements.

The chips will be available to consumers starting in late January. The unveiling drew positive reactions from industry professionals, with attendees praising Nvidia’s continued innovation in graphics technology.

Nvidia’s presentation was a key highlight on the eve of CES 2024, an event expected to attract over 150,000 attendees and 4,500 exhibitors. The company’s shares hit a record high ahead of the announcement, reflecting market anticipation of its latest advancements.

Founded in 1993, Nvidia has evolved from producing graphics processing chips for video games to leading the development of chips powering AI technologies. The firm now boasts a market valuation exceeding $3 trillion.

Despite its success, Nvidia faces regulatory scrutiny over its dominance in the AI chip market. Last year, the company was approached by competition watchdogs in the US, UK, European Union, South Korea, and China regarding its market position. The RTX 50-series chips mark another step forward in Nvidia’s pursuit of technological leadership, cementing its role as a pioneer in both gaming and AI hardware innovation.
