Ibrahim Sunday blames lack of succession play for Ghana’s struggles

Legendary Ghanaian footballer Ibrahim Sunday has attributed the Black Stars’ recent struggles to the lack of a succession plan.
The West African powerhouse has been criticized following a terrible run in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ghana, four-time winners of the AFCON, will miss the tournament to be staged in Morocco for the first time in 20 years.
Ghana recorded three draws and three defeats after six games, finishing bottom of Group F with three points.
Speaking in an interview, Ibrahim Sunday pointed out the lack of a succession plan for the Black Stars’ poor recent showing.
“The Black Stars is struggling because we didn’t plan for the future. We enjoyed the Black Stars in previous years without putting in place a succession plan. We should have introduced players into the team for the future” he said.
The Black Stars will aim to put up an improved performance when they face Chad and Madagascar in March 2025 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has yet to decide on Otto Addo’s future as the team’s head coach.
