Abedi Pele confident of a Black Stars resurgence after AFCON failure

By Lukman MUMIN, Accra

Ghana legend Abedi Ayew Pele has urged all key stakeholders of Ghana football to refrain from giving up following the recent setbacks suffered by the national teams including the Black Stars.

The former Ghana captain, who made headlines decades ago, believes it is possible to bounce back despite the challenges.

“I think time changes in all and this, we are talking about three decades. So whatever it is, we shouldn’t look back; we should just look forward and work hard and achieve whatever we want to achieve,” he told Max FM

His comment comes after Ghana’s poor run of results in major tournaments and the recent qualifiers.

The Black Stars have failed to proceed beyond the group stage in each of their last three major tournaments (2021 and 2023 AFCON and 2022 World Cup).

The team also failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) failing to secure a single win in all six qualifying matches.

However, the team hopes to recover as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
