Chef Smith not new Cook-a-thon record holder – Guinness World Records

Guinness World Records has responded to claims by Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith that he is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

This comes after Chef Smith announced at a press conference on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, that he had achieved the record, presenting a certificate as proof.

“I am deeply humbled and honoured to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon,” Chef Smith declared. The inscription on his certificate read: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”

However, in response to an enquiry, Alina Polianskaya, a PR Executive of the Guinness World Records, indicated that Chef Smith’s claim is false.

This enquiry was driven by doubts about the authenticity of Chef Smith’s certificate and the absence of any confirmation from the Guinness World Records.

“No, this is not true. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate. The current and true holder is: the longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours 57 mins 16 secs and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023,” Alina wrote.

Despite this, the manager of Chef Smith, Benny, has provided what they consider as proof of validation of their record
