NAPO tops  running mate race  for Bawumia in NIB report

A report by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has revealed that Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, is the preferred choice among New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to be the running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 General Election.

The report also asserts a strong consensus within the rank and file of the party that the running mate should be selected from the stronghold of the party –the Ashanti region

The report spans an extensive nationwide survey from June 12 to June 14, 2024, targeting 5,116 NPP delegates, including national, regional, constituency, and polling station

The survey results indicate that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, is the clear choice for the position of running mate.

The report indicated that the Energy Minister secured 76.2% of the responses from the executives polled.His strong standing is particularly noted among constituency and polling station executives, who constituted the largest segments of the survey sample.

His closest contender was , Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education and MP for the Bosomtwe constituency, who emerged as the second most preferred choice, garnering 10.1% of the responses.

Other notable personalities considered by the delegates include Apostle Opoku Onyinah, former Chairman of the Pentecost Church of Ghana, and Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Agriculture and MP for Abetifi Constituency. However, their support was minimal compared to that of NAPO and Adutwum.

The report further indicated that approximately 84% of respondents considered Mathew Opoku Prempeh  as the ideal running mate due to his charisma and popularity among party members. Furthermore, 88% believe he is the best choice to pair with Dr. Bawumia. Additionally, 94% of respondents indicated a preference for a male running mate, though 89% expressed their willingness to accept Dr. Bawumia’s final choice, showing a high level of flexibility and confidence in the presidential candidate’s decision-making.
