GRIDCo, ECG announces ‘Dumsor’ over three weeks period

The Ghana Grid Company LTD (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced that a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria would necessitate a power management schedule over  the next three weeks.

The disruption began on Wednesday, 12th June 2024.

The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) explained in a statement that the reduced gas supply is due to ongoing maintenance works by a gas supplier in Nigeria. This maintenance is expected to last three weeks.

The statement noted that maintenance activities have significantly reduced Ghana’s overall power generation capacity, potentially necessitating load management during this period.

“The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo), in a statement, has explained that the reduction in gas supply was due to maintenance works being undertaken by a gas supplier in Nigeria and is projected to last three (3) weeks.

The maintenance has caused a reduction in overall power generation capacity in Ghana which could result in load management over the period of the work”.

GRIDCo and ECG assured the public that they are working closely with other stakeholders in the power sector to optimize available resources and minimize the impact on consumers.

“GRIDCo and ECG however, wish to assure the public that we are collaborating with other stakeholders in the power value chain to optimise available resources to ensure minimal impact of the reduction in gas supply on consumers.

GRIDCo and ECG sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused”.
