Admit shortfalls and propose bold solutions- Asantehene advices Bawumia

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to candidly acknowledge the shortcomings of the current government and present bold solutions to address them.
This advice was given during the Vice President’s visit to the Ashanti Region as part of his tour.

The Asantehene emphasized that honesty about the government’s failures would help earn the trust and support of Ghanaians in the upcoming elections.
“Let Ghanaians know that there is a shortfall here but when I am elected, I will work on it. When you do things like that, they will believe you. But if you are only poised to come and rule, then it will not work,” he advised.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II highlighted the importance of outlining clear strategies and solutions to improve the country’s fortunes if elected.
He stressed that detailed and respectful communication of policies is crucial for gaining the confidence of the electorate.
“If you continue making known and explaining the policies you want to bring on board if elected and if they are true and God permits and Ghanaians listen and give you the nod, I am sure you will do them for Ghana to grow for us. Other parties want to govern so let us understand your policies well,” he stated.

Additionally, the Asantehene urged the Vice President to take bold steps to review the Chieftaincy Act if elected as president.
According to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the review of the Act would enable chiefs to collaborate better with the government and actively participate in the country’s development process. It would also empower chiefs, as custodians of the land, to partner effectively with the government in combating illegal mining, which is devastating the nation’s river bodies, forests, land, and other natural resources.

The Asantehene also asked Dr. Bawumia to work towards improving the allowances provided to the various traditional councils, a commitment the Vice President has already made. Furthermore, he urged the flagbearer to ensure the continuation of all ongoing development projects across the country and to initiate major new ones that could help position the country on a path of growth and sustainable development.
