GAF, GIS strengthen ties, promised improved collaboration

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) have called for strengthened collaboration among security agencies across the country.
This call was made during the maiden courtesy visit of the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, to GIS.
The visit, characterized by military protocol and formalities, aimed to enhance the existing mutually beneficial collaboration between the two institutions.
A quaternary guard was formed to receive the Chief of Defence Staff, followed by an inspection of the quarter guard.
The Comptroller-General, Kwame Esuah Takyi, emphasized the importance of cooperation between the GAF and GIS in effectively achieving their respective mandates.
He highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two, dating back to the 1970s when the Immigration Department closely collaborated with the armed forces’ guard units.
He noted the crucial training provided by the Ghana Armed Forces to the first batch of Immigration Department officers in 1989, instilling discipline and professionalism.
The meeting with the CDS signifies the strong partnership between the agencies and their shared commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders and citizens.
The Comptroller-General underscored the role of officers in regulating migration, facilitating safe travel, and combating transnational crime.
Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, in his address, expressed his commitment to fostering closer ties and cooperation between the two institutions.
He stressed the importance of unity among security agencies to effectively tackle emerging threats, emphasizing the critical benefits of collaboration.
Highlighting the advantages of cooperation, the CDS outlined three key areas: compensating for numerical limitations, enhancing interoperability through joint operations and training, and optimizing resource sharing to prevent funding or provisions shortages.
In reaffirming the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to working with all security agencies, the CDS expressed gratitude for past collaboration and thanked colleagues for their support.
He emphasized the necessity of continued collaboration to address any emerging threats effectively.
