African Games 2023 volunteers to be paid GH¢1k allowance

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2023 African Games has responded to the concerns raised by volunteers regarding unpaid stipends by announcing that volunteers will now receive an allowance of GHS 1,000.00.

This decision comes in the wake of protests staged by volunteers following the conclusion of the games in Accra.

The volunteers, numbering over 1,000 individuals, had generously offered their time and services to support the successful execution of the continental event.

However, their dedication was met with frustration when, four days after the conclusion of the Games, they were asked to vacate their lodgings without receiving the financial compensation they were promised.

In response to the outcry from the volunteers, the LOC has taken steps to address the issue by agreeing to provide financial packages.

Each volunteer is set to receive GHS 1,000.00 as well as a GHS 200.00 travel and transport allowance.

This move aims to recognize and appreciate the invaluable contribution of the volunteers to the smooth running of the event.

The communication from the LOC specifies that volunteers have until Monday, April 8, to confirm their statuses in order to facilitate the disbursement of payments.

This gesture underscores the importance of honoring commitments and ensuring that volunteers are duly recognized for their efforts in making the 2023 African Games a success.
