By Christabel Oboshie ANNAN, Accra

As part of efforts to promote female diversity and inclusion, Vivo Energy Ghana Limited, in collaboration with HR Focus Africa, has unveiled the ShePower project.

The initiative aims to cultivate an inclusive environment, empower women to thrive, contribute unique perspectives, and shape their future.

The Corporate Communications Manager, Shirley Tony Kum, emphasized that the programme extends beyond employees to include school-going children, particularly young girls.

She stated that mentorship sessions, capacity-building workshops, career guidance, counseling, and leadership programmes will be integral components of the project.

“The activities are designed to address cultural, mindset, and behavioral shifts, encouraging women to believe in their ability to break the glass ceiling” she stressed.

She highlighted that ShePower is a year-on-year programme, that will foster continuous change and empowerment for women.

Kum noted that the initiative seeks to enhance women’s capacity to pursue managerial positions without fear, providing the necessary support for their professional growth.

Offering advice to aspiring women leaders, she emphasized the importance of being deliberate about goals and aspirations.

“It just doesn’t happen on a silver platter; it requires effort to reach your desired destination.” she stated.

The Human Resource Manager at Vivo Energy Ghana, Mercy Amoah also said that despite the global recognition of women’s potential, research from UN Women in 2023 revealed that only 28.2% of management jobs worldwide are held by women.

Acknowledging this disparity, she mentioned that Vivo Energy is committed to enhancing female representation not only within the organization but also in society at large.

As part of Vivo Energy’s strategic vision, she mentioned that the company  launched the Women at Vivo Energy (WAVE) initiative, focusing on promoting diversity within the company.

To further the commitment, she added that the ShePower project, themed ‘Creating a culture of inclusivity: together we rise,’  will also extend its reach to school-going girls and women in senior high and tertiary institutions.

She called on everyone, including male colleagues, to offer maximum support for the success of the ShePower Project, emphasizing that “gender diversity is not just good for women; it is good for anyone who wants results.”

Chief Executive Officer of L’aine Services Limited and Co-founder of Legacy Girls College, Dr. Mrs. Ellen Hagan, encouraged women to aspire for excellence, emphasizing that it is not handed on a silver platter but requires dedicated effort.

She urged women to refrain from making excuses and strive to be the best versions of themselves.
