By Christabel Oboshie ANNAN, Accra

MTN Ghana, observed International Women’s Day by providing digital and financial literacy training to members of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association and the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association.

The education covered various aspects of investment, savings, insurance, and pension in the growing digital economy, positioning these women to grow their businesses and support their families.

The event, held at Rawlings Park in the Central Business District of Accra, was part of a two-day activity to mark this year’s International Women’s Day.

Senior Manager, Data Devices Home, MTN Ghana, Gloria Frempong,  highlighted that the initiative reflects MTN Ghana’s commitment to advancing the skills of women in traditionally female-dominated sectors.

The aim according to her, is to equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in the digital age, fostering both business growth and family support.

Madam Frempong stressed that the programme aims to strategically positioning individuals to navigate the complexities of the digital era, making informed decisions for entrepreneurial success and overall family well-being.

She encouraged leveraging technology, such as my MTN App, Ayoba, WhatsApp Business, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, to connect and reach out to customers.

However, she cautioned against fraudsters and emphasized the importance of not divulging MoMo PINs and crucial information to unknown individuals.

The Acting Chief Human Resource Officer at MTN Ghana, Abdallah Ibrahim, underlined that MTN’s commitment goes beyond internal programmes, actively participating in conversations addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion on both national and global platforms.

The event aimed to equip women with tools and knowledge to enhance their businesses, helping them acquire new digital skills and seize available opportunities.

The initiative was replicated in the Ashanti, Northern, Eastern, and Western Regions, with plans for sustained periodic engagements and future interactions to extend the programme to market women.
