In a historic achievement for Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, the team is set to receive a minimum of $200,000 after securing a spot in the semi-finals of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The WAFU B champions sealed their place with a convincing 3-1 victory over Huracanes Football Club from Equatorial Guinea, ensuring they advanced from Group B.
Tracey Twum played a pivotal role in the triumph, scoring a brace, while substitute N-Yanimaya Gnabekan sealed the victory after being set up by Twum late in the game.
This win not only solidifies Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ standing in the competition but also guarantees them a substantial prize money of $200,000 in their debut appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The team, led by coach Joe Nana Adarkwa, has the opportunity to increase their earnings as they move into the knockout stage.
Advancing to the final would secure at least $250,000 in total if they finish as runners-up.
However, winning the third edition of the competition would not only bring home the coveted trophy but also a substantial cash prize of $400,000.
The introduction of prize money for the CAF Women’s Champions League last year during the second edition in Morocco marked a significant shift from the inaugural edition in Egypt in 2021, where no monetary rewards were involved.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies is now poised for a showdown against fellow debutants Sporting Club Casablanca in the semi-finals scheduled for Wednesday, November 15.
