ECG installs mobile substation to tackle erratic power supply in Oyarifa

In a bid to alleviate the persistent power supply challenges experienced by its valued customers in and around Oyarifa, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has successfully commissioned a state-of-the-art 20/26MVA Mobile Substation at Oyarifa.
This significant infrastructure investment, solely funded by ECG at a cost of GH18 million, is set to bring relief to the community by addressing the low voltage issues and other power supply challenges.
The commissioning ceremony, held jointly by ECG Accra East and Subtransmission, took place in Accra yesterday. During the event, Ing. Bismark Otoo, General Manager for Accra East, emphasized ECG’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling its mandate, which is to provide a consistent, secure, and high-quality supply of electricity to its cherished customers.
Ing. Otoo went on to reveal that customers in Oyarifa, Ayimensa, and the neighboring areas had been grappling with low voltage problems that affected both domestic and commercial activities.
Consequently, the mobile substation has been commissioned to enhance voltage supply and tackle these challenges head-on.
The newly commissioned mobile substation is expected to cater to the needs of over 15,000 customers residing in Oyarifa, Ayi Mensah, Abokobi, Teiman, Danfa, and Gravel Pit.
Ing. Christian Dzikunu, the Operations Manager for ECG’s Subtransmission Division, shared that customers who have had to endure frequent power outages and low voltage issues within Oyarifa will now benefit from a more stable and reliable power supply.
Additionally, the commissioning of the Mobile Substation will help ease the load on the Substation in Adenta, addressing the problem of overload and resulting in improved supply quality and fewer interruptions in Oyarifa.
Explaining further, Ing. Dzikunu stressed the significant increase in supply demand on the existing Adenta Substation, which had been affecting the quality and reliability of the power supply in Oyarifa. 7
The Mobile Substation has been established as a proactive response to this growing demand and will also serve as a backup for the Adenta Station.
“Demand at Oyarifa was high, putting considerable pressure on the old substation at Adenta.
“To alleviate the pressure on the Adenta Mobile Substation, a new mobile substation was set up here in Oyarifa.
“This move is set to enhance the voltage profile significantly,” he added.
He concluded by reiterating ECG’s unswerving commitment to ensuring that its customers receive top-notch, secure, and reliable power supply, ultimately guaranteeing their utmost satisfaction.
This development marks a significant step towards a more reliable and resilient power infrastructure in the Oyarifa community and its environs.
