Appiatse project : government hands over 124 housing units to community

Government has officially handed over 124 housing units to the people of Appiatse , a farming community along the Tarkwa- Bogoso road in the Western Region .

From the rubles of the explosion of January 20, 2022 explosion ,  stands a modern community  with auxiliary facilities that symbolizes a new dawn and hope for the people of Appiatse

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who commissioned the reconstructed community on Thursday  May  2 , 2024 ,  praised the resilience of the people of Appiatse in overcoming one of the most difficult moments of  their lives.

He said , the tragedy has ignited the team spirit and the communal spirit of the people to rise above their challenges.

The Vice President expressed gratitude to the experts , consultants and all other stakeholders, whose dedication to work and commitment have resulted  in restoring hope for the people of Appiatse .

Dr Bawumia paid a glowing tribute to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for his commitment in ensuring that the project was well resourced and complete on schedule.

“President Akufo Addo’s commitment and tenacity led to the construction of this new community.”

On January 2022, a truck carrying 10 tons of mining explosives got involved in an accident. This resulted in an explosion which affected the Appiatse village destroying several buildings and killing 13 people .

The government through the ministry of Lands and Natural Resources launched the Appiatse Endowment Fund to support the affected people and rebuild the community.

The new community comprise of housing units ranging from one-bedroom to seven-bedroom units with eco-friendly facilities.

The rebuilt community has a six unit classroom drainage and water storage systems and well demarcated inner roads.
