ECG explains ‘Dumsor’ a day after Nana Addo announced an end to Phenomenon

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been explaining the reason for the recent incidents of power outages in some parts of the Greater Accra Region barely a day after the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo announced an end to the phenomenon.
The Power distributor in a statement issued on May 2, 2024 explained that the interruptions observed in some parts of the capital were as a result of heavy rains on Wednesdays which flooded some of their substations.
The Electricity Company said it was working with Ghana Fire Service to drain all the flooded substations to enable it restore power to the affected areas.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday announced an end to the erratic power supply being witnessed across the country.
Speaking at the May Day event, in Accra, the President said the challenges which plagued the power sector resulting in the return of the dreaded phenomenon popularly referred to as ‘Dumsor’has been effectively addressed.
“For the past seven years we have worked tirelessly to keep the lights on and I am confident that the unfortunate era of dumsor will not return”
He explained that over the period, the issues surrounding transformers and gas supply have been successfully resolved resulting in sufficient improvement in power supply reliability.
“Indeed, over the past few days, we have witnessed stable electricity supply across the country with no load-shedding reported anywhere yesterday.”, the president said.
He extended gratitude to the citizens for their patience and cooperation during the trying times.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for their patience and understanding during recent temporary challenges with electricity supply across the country.
