Bui’s renewable energy project beneficial (Part 1)

By Dr Kofi Amponsah-Bediako

Sources of energy for countries in the world are very important because production in all sectors of the economy is dependent on energy so what this means is that without reliable sources of energy, production cannot take place in a meaningful way.

Energy can be categorised into two types, namely, renewable and non renewable.

Non renewable energy is good but the problem with it is that its replenishment cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, this type of energy can stay only for a certain period of time.

In the case of renewable energy, it is possible to replenish it as time goes on. As a result of this, it can be said that it is replenishable or replaceable with time.

Renewable energy is energy derived from natural sources that are replenished at a higher rate than they are consumed. Sunlight and wind, for example, are such sources that are constantly being replenished.

In other words, renewable energy is so called because it is possible to renew it without completely exhausting it.

In the light of this, countries that have renewable energy sources tend to prefer that type of energy since it is easily replenishable.

The production of goods and services will be continuously needed in society to satisfy the needs of man.

This means that production of goods in factories and other organizations will continuously be dependent on availability of energy.

It is for this reason that leaders and businessmen ought to think outside the box and plan for renewable energy sources if they are to continue to stay in production for goods and services.

Against this background, it comes as good news to hear that the leadership of the Bui Power Authority is planning towards a reliable project that will ensure renewable energy so that the country can continue to satisfy its economic needs.

As part of plans to become the leader in renewable energy, the Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority (BPA), Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, has noted that lands have been acquired at Tamale, Bolgatanga, Buipe, Sawla and others in the Northern region for solar power generation.

He stated categorically that these lands acquired were located at strategic points close to Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) substations.

This reveals that Mr. Dzamesi is a visionary and strategic leader who is clearly thinking outside the box in order to be able to meet the energy needs of this country.

Such a move and strategic vision is quite commendable and so we expect other leaders in public organisations to learn from him instead of thinking of their own selfish ends in the case of some of them, not all.

Mr. Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi while speaking on GhanaWeb TV’s BizTech programme said BPA plans to achieve net zero emissions in due course.
He said, “Ours is to make sure that we become the leaders in renewable energy, meaning that we should, as much as possible, do more renewable projects than any other organization in this country.”

Projects that are dependent on renewable energy can be sustained in a reliable manner because it is possible to meet its energy needs.

This is what we want in this country if we are all to help in its rapid development and construction.

It is Ghanaians themselves who can rebuild their own country and shape it into a first class destination in Africa for emulation by other countries in and outside the continent.

Moving Ghana into a higher level of development is possible so we should all work towards it and bring this dream into fruition.

It is possible as has been pointed out by Dr. Bawumia so let us work hard towards this noble dream.

This is a dream that is realisable so let us remain committed to it.
