Remove non-tariff barriers to attract more investors – ICC Chairperson

Chairperson of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Maria Fernanda Garza, has advocated for the elimination of non-tariff barriers to enhance trade across the African continent.
The call for the removal of non-tariff barriers aligns with efforts to streamline trade processes and create a conducive environment for economic development across Africa.
As stakeholders continue to address regulatory challenges, fostering a transparent and efficient trade ecosystem remains paramount for unlocking the continent’s economic potential.
Speaking after a tour of the MPS Tema Port, Fernanda emphasized the importance of addressing legal obstacles alongside physical infrastructure improvements to stimulate investment and job creation.
According to Fernanda, after addressing the physical infrastructure gap, African nations must prioritize enhancing the legal framework to effectively tackle non-tariff barriers.
She asserted that this approach is crucial for attracting investment and fostering economic growth.
Fernanda, the first female Chairperson of the ICC, made these remarks during her visit to the MPS Tema Port, where she familiarized herself with operations on Tuesday.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MPS Mohamed Samara , welcomed the ICC Chair’s visit as a vote of confidence in Ghana’s favorable investment climate.
Samara highlighted the collaborative efforts of Meridian Ports Services (MPS) with various administrations in Ghana’s Fourth Republic, emphasizing the company’s commitment to operating without fear of political interference.
He regarded Fernanda’s visit as a testament to Ghana’s positive image and stressed the importance of projecting the country as an attractive investment destination.
“We need to showcase Ghana as a place where investors can confidently invest,” said Samara.
“Highlighting the success of investments and promoting investor confidence are crucial to attracting further investment opportunities.”
