Flight Encounter With Stonebwoy Sparked ‘Odo Nwom’ Remix – Ofori Amponsah

Celebrated Ghanaian Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has revealed that a chance encounter with dancehall star Stonebwoy on a flight led to the collaboration on the remix of his classic song, “Odo Nwom.”
Ofori Amponsah said he had been considering reworking the song for about two years before deciding to record a new version and search for artistes to feature on the project.
The veteran musician said the plans took an unexpected turn when he met Stonebwoy while travelling and mentioned the remix to him.
According to Ofori Amponsah, Stonebwoy immediately expressed his admiration for the original song and asked to be included on the new version.
“We met Stonebwoy, and we were talking about the song. And he said, ‘Ah Charlie, this song is a song that I like.’ I said, ‘I’m remixing it.’ And he said, ‘Then give it to me,’” he recounted in an interview with Kafui Dey shared on X.
Ofori Amponsah disclosed that he had already sent the song to Ghanaian musician KiDi before his encounter with Stonebwoy.
He said KiDi eventually recorded his contribution after Stonebwoy had completed his part, describing the development as an almost unexpected occurrence.
“So I had sent the song to KiDi already. And so after Stone recorded his part, KiDi also did it. And it was just like, it was kind of divine,” he said.
The Highlife musician said he did not initially expect the remix to attract significant attention, explaining that he approached the project without putting pressure on himself.
“I just consider myself a musician. I just create a song. What people call it, I don’t care,” he said.
Ofori Amponsah admitted that the reception of the remix had surprised him, considering that he initially viewed the collaboration casually.
“The song is doing well. I’m surprised at the reception of the song because I thought we were just joking with it, but it’s making waves,” he said.
The remix has brought together three distinct generations and styles within Ghanaian music, combining Ofori Amponsah’s traditional Highlife sound with Stonebwoy’s dancehall influence and KiDi’s contemporary musical approach.
The collaboration has subsequently introduced the classic “Odo Nwom” to a new generation of listeners while highlighting the potential of cross-generational partnerships in Ghana’s music industry.
