Bubista Ends Six-Year Cape Verde Tenure to Take Charge of RS Berkane

Cape Verde will begin the search for a new head coach after Pedro Leitão Brito, popularly known as Bubista, ended his six-year tenure with the Blue Sharks to take over Moroccan club RS Berkane.
His departure brings to a close one of the most successful periods in Cape Verde’s football history, having guided the national team to their first-ever qualification for the FIFA World Cup and established the Blue Sharks among Africa’s competitive national sides.
Bubista was appointed head coach in 2020 and quickly built a disciplined and well-organised team capable of challenging some of the continent’s leading football nations. Under his guidance, Cape Verde gained a reputation for its tactical discipline, defensive organisation and consistent performances in major international competitions.
The defining achievement of his tenure came in 2025 when he led Cape Verde to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, securing the country’s maiden appearance at football’s biggest tournament. The achievement marked a significant milestone for the island nation and remains one of the biggest successes in its sporting history.
Cape Verde carried that momentum into the World Cup, where the Blue Sharks impressed with a series of disciplined performances. They progressed beyond the group stage before their campaign ended in the Round of 32, earning praise for competing strongly against some of the tournament’s established teams.
Bubista now begins a new chapter with RS Berkane, one of Morocco’s leading clubs. His appointment comes as the club seeks to maintain its competitiveness in both domestic competitions and continental football, following a run of strong performances in recent seasons.
For Cape Verde, Bubista leaves behind a lasting legacy that extends beyond results. During his tenure, he helped establish a clear playing identity, strengthened the team’s competitiveness on the international stage and raised expectations for the future of the national side.
