Thousands of Diaspora Fans Expected to Back Black Stars – Sports Minister

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams says Ghana could enjoy massive support from its diaspora community at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing it as a key advantage for the Black Stars.
He believes the presence of thousands of Ghanaians and Africans living in North America will create a strong wave of support for the national team during the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking in a media, Mr Adams said excitement is already building among Ghanaians both at home and abroad as preparations for the global showpiece intensify.
He noted that the enthusiasm for the Black Stars has been evident during recent team activities, pointing to strong turnouts by supporters in the United States.
“The energy level is quite high. Even when the team arrived in the United States, the number of Ghanaians at the airport and hotel to welcome them shows that the diaspora is ready for the team,” he said.
According to him, the support base extends beyond the United States to Canada and Europe, where many fans are reportedly planning to travel to North America to follow the team.
“Ghanaians in Canada are ready, and even those in Europe are planning to travel to watch the team. The energy is building in Accra and beyond,” he added.
Mr Adams also suggested that the Black Stars will benefit from playing in cities with large Ghanaian populations, including Toronto, which he described as a major hub for the diaspora.
He expressed optimism that strong fan support, combined with team spirit, could inspire Ghana to perform above expectations at the tournament.
“You may think we don’t have the stars, but we have a team with spirit that can take us far,” he said.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
