Telecel Ghana Begins Nationwide Network Expansion to Improve Connectivity

Telecel Ghana has commenced a nationwide network infrastructure expansion programme aimed at improving service quality, increasing network capacity, and delivering faster internet connectivity to customers across the country.

The exercise officially began at the company’s telecommunications mast located within the Social Welfare area at Madina, where engineers were seen installing new wireless technology to enhance network speed and reduce congestion in the area.

The expansion forms part of a broader modernisation programme announced earlier this year by Chief Executive Officer, Patricia Obo-Nai, who assured customers in March that major network upgrades would begin in the second quarter of 2026.

Director of Technology, Ebenezer Siebu, said the company was deploying advanced technologies to strengthen network performance in high-demand locations.

“We are building extra capacity on this site to reduce congestion and increase internet speeds for thousands of customers in Madina,” he said.

“As data usage continues to grow, these investments will ensure customers enjoy faster speeds, better voice quality, and stronger connectivity.”

According to him, more than 100 high-traffic sites across the country are expected to receive major technology upgrades this year, while over 1,000 sites nationwide will undergo varying levels of enhancement under the broader expansion programme.

The company’s Health and Safety team also supervised the commencement of the installation works to ensure compliance with operational and safety standards by engineers and contractors from Huawei.

Head of Networks, Anthony Sam, said the investment goes beyond infrastructure deployment and reflects the company’s commitment to improving digital experiences for customers nationwide.

“As we improve networks in communities across the country, we are approaching this work with passion, commitment, and purpose.”

Residents in Madina welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the upgrades would improve internet quality and online access.

A resident, Adiza, said she looked forward to faster internet speeds for streaming and social media activities.

“I use Telecel every day to watch videos online, so I am excited to see them improving the network here in Madina,” she said.

Telecel Ghana said the expansion is intended to meet rising demand for mobile data services while preparing the company’s infrastructure for future digital technologies and services.

Since rebranding to Telecel Ghana, the company says it has significantly expanded its network footprint from approximately 5,000 sites to about 9,000 sites nationwide as part of efforts to strengthen connectivity and support Ghana’s growing digital economy.
