Prof. Adei Marks 50 Years of Marriage with Launch of New Book

Economist, governance and leadership expert, Professor Emeritus Stephen Adei, has officially launched The Book of Magnificent Marriage, a deeply reflective account of his 50-year union with his late wife, Georgina, offering lessons on love, faith, and enduring commitment.
The launch event, chaired by Herbert Morrison, brought together a cross-section of dignitaries, including academics, clergy, policymakers, and family members, all gathered to celebrate what has been described as a remarkable testimony of a God-centered marriage.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Adei described his marriage as “divinely inspired,” anchored on the biblical principle in Amos 3:3,“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” He emphasised that the book is both a love story and a testimony, intended to inspire couples to build strong, faith-based relationships.
The book, reviewed by Dr. Adwoa Adei-Atiemo, is structured into three distinct parts. The first section, Grace on the Hilltop, recounts the couple’s unique beginnings, including a memorable proposal opposite Kotoka International Airport and a traditional marriage that was confirmed barely 20 minutes before it took place.
The second part traces their journey across continents from Ghana to Australia, where they spent early years raising their children, and later back to Ghana, the United Kingdom, and Namibia. Despite facing significant financial hardship, including periods of poverty, their relationship grew stronger. Prof. Adei recalled that during their early years in Australia, he could not even afford basic items, yet their shared faith and unity sustained them.
The final section, described as the “Baker’s Dozen,” reflects on the last 13 years of their marriage, years marked by deeper spiritual connection and a shared mission to impact others. He noted that their ultimate wish is for readers to be blessed and experience their own “magnificent marriage.”
In an emotional tribute, Prof. Adei revealed that in 50 years of marriage, they never had a single fight. “We shared everything, even one purse,” he said, explaining that from the very first month of marriage, his wife committed her salary fully to their shared life.
He also recounted what he described as divine confirmation of their union, including hearing a voice affirming that he would marry Georgina. Together, the couple authored 17 books and lived by a guiding principle: “No Bible, No Breakfast.”
Georgina, whom he described as “the best woman God ever made,” battled illness for 16 years but remained committed to writing. Prof. Adei disclosed that although they had planned the book together, he completed it just two weeks after her passing, isolating himself to fulfil what he saw as a divine assignment.
Her burial was deeply symbolic. Using cloth intended for their 50th wedding anniversary, Prof. Adei personally accompanied her final journey from Asiakwa through Pepiase to Hwiremoase, describing it as his own “Taj Mahal” tribute.
The launch, officiated by Rev. Dr. Atiemo of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, featured an auction of the book, with copies selling for as high as GH¢5,000, reflecting strong interest in the work.
In his closing remarks, Chairman Herbert Morrison prayed for blessings upon all attendees and patrons, noting that the story stands as a powerful reminder that marriage can indeed be “sweet, inspirational, and healthy” when built on faith, unity, and shared purpose.
