The 21-year-old found the net in Leicester City’s 2–1 defeat to Birmingham City in a match that also saw fellow Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Osman score his debut goal after joining Birmingham on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. (Scroll down to watch video)
Issahaku’s goal came in the 22nd minute, when he expertly controlled a defensive clearance with his chest before unleashing a powerful shot into the roof of the net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
Despite the quality of the strike, it proved to be only a consolation for Leicester, who slipped to another damaging defeat. In 30 Championship appearances this season, Issahaku has now recorded seven goals and seven assists, underlining his growing influence in the side.
The loss further deepens Leicester City’s troubles following a six-point deduction imposed prior to the game for breaches of financial fair play regulations. Combined with the points penalty, the defeat leaves the Foxes languishing in 21st place in the 24-team Championship standings.
Leicester will now turn their attention to a crucial fixture against Southampton on Tuesday, February 10, as they look to arrest their slide and climb away from the relegation zone.
