Strategic Action Needed as Inflation Falls to 3.8% – Analyst

By: Solomon Nartey Tetteh

Economic Analyst Emmanuel Boateng says Ghana’s economic narrative has shifted from one of survival to strategy, as falling inflation and improving macroeconomic indicators offer both consumers and businesses a new window of opportunity.

Speaking on Business Breakfast on Zed 101.9FM, Mr. Boateng noted that inflation is experienced differently by individuals, depending largely on location and purchasing habits. According to him, consumers often carry their own personal inflation rates, shaped by where they live and where they buy goods and services.

“For every consumer, we all have different inflation rates. If I buy my lunch from one place and someone else buys theirs from another, we will feel the impact of inflation differently,” he explained.

He described the recent drop in inflation to 3.8 percent, alongside a monetary policy rate of 15.5 percent, as a sign that the country has weathered a difficult economic period. In his view, Ghana has moved past a major storm and is now positioned for a more strategic economic phase.

“For the first time in a long while, the economic conversation has shifted from survival to strategy,” the analyst said.

He noted that the current environment calls for a change in mindset among consumers and businesses alike.

However, he cautioned that while the relief from inflation is real, it should not lead to complacency. Instead, he urged economic actors to act decisively to take advantage of the newfound stability.

“The relief is no longer theoretical it is real, but the response required now is not just to breathe a sigh of relief. We must pivot aggressively to capitalise on this stability,” he said.

Mr. Boateng noted that unlike in 2024 and 2025, when lower inflation merely meant that prices were rising more slowly, 2026 is showing signs of actual price declines in areas that directly affect daily life.

He explained that these developments present an opportunity for households managing tight budgets, as well as business leaders assessing forecasts and investment plans, to make more informed and forward-looking decisions.

According to the analyst, the presence of deflation in key consumer sectors marks a turning point, reinforcing the need for strategic planning to sustain gains and translate macroeconomic stability into broader economic benefits.
