Cashew processors target 85,000 tonnes by 2026
The Association of Cashew Processors, Ghana (ACPG), has announced an ambitious goal to process 85,000 metric tons of cashew annually by 2026, a move expected to create thousands of jobs, improve farmer incomes and strengthen Ghana’s position in the global cashew market.
The announcement was made following a working tour by the ACPG President to cashew processing factories across the Middle Belt, including Techiman, Sunyani and surrounding communities.
The visit provided an opportunity to interact with processors, workers and community leaders about the current state of the industry.
Despite its vast potential, Ghana’s cashew sector faces significant challenges.
Processors cited issues such as inconsistent supply of raw cashew nuts due to weak farmer–processor linkages, price volatility, high processing costs, limited access to affordable financing, competition from raw nut exports, slow adoption of modern technology, expensive international certification requirements and weak enforcement of policies.
“These hurdles make it difficult for processors to operate at full capacity and remain competitive globally,” the Association noted.
Addressing the concerns, the ACPG President reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to overcoming these bottlenecks through its newly developed Cashew Framework.
The plan outlines strategies to secure raw materials, improve processing standards and expand both domestic and international markets.
“This tour has given us firsthand insight into the pressing needs of our members. ACPG will continue to work with government, farmers and development partners to ensure processors receive the support required to expand capacity and sustain jobs in Ghana,” the President stressed. The Association is confident that achieving its 85,000-ton target by 2026 will not only create thousands of direct and indirect jobs but also improve the livelihoods of farmers while positioning Ghana as a global leader in value-added cashew production.
