Court orders DNA test for late Mohbad’s son

By Samuella Antwi

Nearly two years after the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, a Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has ordered his widow, Wunmi, to conduct a DNA test on their son, Liam.

The ruling, delivered on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga, followed an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who has consistently questioned the child’s paternity.

Mohbad’s death in September 2023 shocked the nation, sparking protests, vigils and calls for justice over the suspicious circumstances surrounding his passing.

His body was hurriedly buried in Ikorodu the next day, only to be later exhumed for autopsy amid public outcry.

While investigations into his death continue, debates over Liam’s paternity have dominated public discourse, fuelled by social media commentary and repeated demands for a DNA test. Supporters of Wunmi, including celebrities, have condemned the fixation as a distraction from the quest for justice.

Mohbad’s widow has previously stated that the late singer never questioned Liam’s paternity during his lifetime, stressing that the debate has only deepened her grief.

The prolonged controversy has overshadowed efforts to uncover the truth about Mohbad’s death.

An autopsy conducted this year indicated that the singer may have died from a severe allergic reaction after receiving an injection from auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, which led to multiple organ failure.

Despite these findings, Mohbad remains unburied, with custody battles over his body compounding the family’s pain.
