Ridge Hospital probe committee ‘unfair’, set up to clear culprit– GRNMA

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Jefferson Asare, has described as unfair the report of the investigative committee set up to probe the alleged assault of a rotation nurse at Ridge Hospital.
The incident, which occurred on 17 August 2025, involved a heated altercation between social media activist Ralph St William and staff at the hospital’s Emergency Department.
The confrontation reportedly arose over delays in treating an accident victim.
Amid public uproar, the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, established a committee to investigate the matter.
However, its report, presented on Wednesday, 27 August, concluded that there was no medical evidence to support claims that the nurse, Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, suffered a shoulder dislocation as a result of the altercation.
During a media interview on Saturday, 30 August, Mr Asare criticised the committee’s work, arguing that it overlooked key systemic issues and instead focused on absolving the accused.
“The committee wasn’t fair in their dealings. Their report does not reflect what actually happened on the ground. Instead, a committee was set up simply to exonerate someone who entered the hospital and caused mayhem,” he stated.
Mr Asare stressed that addressing staff shortages and poor working conditions must take precedence if such incidents are to be prevented in future.
