Kofi Kinaata grieves helicopter crash victims, recent losses
Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata has opened up about the deep emotional toll he has endured following the 6 August helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaian officials.
The Takoradi-born artiste revealed that he had flown on the same helicopter twice earlier this year, a thought that continues to haunt him.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Kinaata said it has forced him to confront the fragility of life.
He explained that his grief has been compounded by a series of heartbreaking events in recent weeks, including the death of 16 schoolchildren in a fatal car accident and the passing of highlife legend Daddy Lumba.
“These moments have been weighing heavily on my soul. What makes it even harder is knowing I’ve been on that same flight twice this year. That thought just won’t leave me. Moments like these really make you question life… what’s the point, when it can all end in an instant?,” Kinaata wrote in an emotional post on X.`
The musician admitted that even music, his longtime emotional outlet, has taken on a sombre tone as he struggles to process the weight of these losses.
Rapper Sarkodie, responding to Kinaata’s post, offered words of encouragement.
“It’s a very dark time and I can relate a hundred percent. As a true artiste, you can only channel what you feel so don’t fight it. Just pour out what you are feeling inside. You don’t know who might need it. Drop the music,” he wrote.
