Family of late Daddy Lumba informs gov’t of his passing

The family of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has officially informed government of his passing.
On Monday, 25 August, the family paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at Jubilee House.
The visit formed part of traditional protocols for notifying government about the death of a distinguished national figure. It also opened discussions on funeral arrangements and the possibility of state involvement in honouring the icon.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, described the relationship between the late musician and the President as special and heartfelt.
“The President loved Daddy Lumba’s songs. When he sits in his car and sings along, you would be amazed. So this is a great loss to us all,” Mr Debrah said, noting that the artiste’s music had a timeless appeal that touched Ghanaians across generations.
He assured the bereaved family of government’s support, noting that Daddy Lumba’s immense contribution to the nation’s cultural heritage deserved national recognition.
“If money could save a life, we would have found a way. This is not just a loss for the family, but for the entire nation,” Mr Debrah remarked.
Daddy Lumba reportedly passed away on 26 July 2025 at The Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra.
