Shayibu Abubakari joins Asante Kotoko

By Lukman MUMIN

Asante Kotoko has reinforced its squad with the acquisition of promising right-back Shayibu Abubakari on a three-year deal, making him their tenth signing in a highly active transfer window.

The 21-year-old joins the Porcupine Warriors after passing his medical and is expected to bring athleticism, versatility, and fresh competition to the team’s defensive unit.

Abubakari, who arrives from Karela United, is no stranger to top-level Ghanaian football. He previously played for Real Tamale United and also gained international experience during a brief stint with Czech outfit FK Mlada Boleslav.

Known for his attacking instincts and ability to operate both as a full-back and winger, the youngster is seen as a valuable addition to Coach Karim Zito’s plans.

“This is a great opportunity for me to grow and learn. I’m excited to work with experienced players like Lord Amoah and contribute to the club’s ambitions both locally and on the continent,” Abubakari told Kotoko media.

With Emmanuel Kotei still recovering from an ACL injury, Abubakari’s arrival comes at a crucial time, offering much-needed depth ahead of the CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Kotoko’s other signings this window include Johnson Oppong, Francis Acquah, and Zakariah Fusseni, signaling the club’s intent to compete strongly this season.

Kotoko is set to travel to South Africa next week to participate in the Kaizer Chiefs Cup as part of its pre-season tour, where fans will get a first glimpse of their new-look side in action.
