Ghana’s leaders urged to lead with integrity and accountability

Renowned corporate executive and governance expert Yaw Nsarkoh has called on Ghanaian leaders to embrace their roles with greater accountability and lead by example if they want to inspire meaningful change in society.

Speaking in a recent media interview, Mr. Nsarkoh questioned the growing divide between leadership privilege and public accountability, insisting that true leadership is demonstrated through action, not just titles.

“If you cannot claim the extra privileges and then say we are all in it together, then let’s all stay in traffic,” he said.

While Mr. Nsarkoh acknowledged the need for hierarchy in social structures, he stressed that with authority comes responsibility.

“I have no problem with a certain degree of hierarchy required to establish social organizations, but our leaders must also take responsibility,” the governance expert noted.

Mr. Nsarkoh further noted that research consistently shows the most significant force in changing societal culture is not rhetoric but visible leadership behavior.

While not absolving citizens of their responsibilities, he emphasized that the tone for national discipline and civic-mindedness is set at the top. He added: “We all have a responsibility, but leadership also has a responsibility. Otherwise, why is it necessary?”
