Vice President Opoku-Agyemang home after treatment in UK

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has returned to Ghana after receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
She arrived at Kotoka International Airport at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, and was welcomed by senior government officials and aides from her office.
At a brief reception held at Jubilee House, the Vice President expressed deep gratitude to all who supported her during her recovery. She thanked God, her medical team, and close supporters, making special mention of businessman Ibrahim Mahama.
“I need to isolate beyond family and friends your brother, Mr. Ibrahim. He stopped at nothing to ensure that I had what I needed,” she said. “He also came to the hospital to sit by me, and that alone was healing by itself.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang fell ill on Friday, March 28, and was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day. A statement from the Presidency later confirmed that she would continue treatment abroad.
Although the exact nature of her illness has not been made public, government sources confirm that she remained actively engaged with her team while away, receiving briefings on national issues.
Upon her return, she stated, “There is so much we need to do, and by our collective will, we will do much more for our country.”
The Vice President is expected to resume official duties shortly.
