Sports Minister Explains Delay In Budget Publication

By Lukman MUMIN, Accra

Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, has called for patience from the public amid growing pressure to release the Black Stars’ budget for their recent matches against Chad and Madagascar.

Speaking during an interview on Channel One TV on April 15, Adams explained that the budget is still being finalized and is not yet ready for release.

“You’ll know in due time. I’ve said it will be made public. The national team is still in action, with another match coming up in September. We’ll definitely make it public,” he assured.

He stated that revealing a preliminary budget would be inappropriate, noting, “It’s not hidden, but it would be unfair to disclose a draft.”

Adams reiterated his dedication to transparency and accountability and said the budget would be shared once the team’s engagements are completed.

He also emphasized that he won’t allow delays from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in submitting the budget for upcoming matches.

Addressing tensions between the public and the GFA, Adams encouraged a more cooperative approach.

“Being antagonistic isn’t the solution. I focus on the problems, not the people. But if someone becomes a barrier to solving those problems, then they become part of the issue.”

His remarks underscore a push for unity and effective problem-solving in Ghana’s football leadership as the Black Stars prepare for future games.
