Ghana thump Chad to go top in Group I with dazzling performance
The Black Stars put up a display of beautiful football delivered a superb performance in a 5-0 win over Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at a packed Accra sports Stadium to the top of Group I with 12 points.
Goals from Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew. Mohamed Salisu, Inaki Williams and Ernest Nuamah saw Otto Addo’s men take full advantage after Madagascar their opponent next opponent lost 3-0 to Mali early on Thursday.
The breakthrough came just 87secs into the game when Antoine Semenyo capitalized on a goalmouth scramble, slotting home after a series of ricochets in the box.
From kickoff, Ghana’s high-pressing strategy left Chad reeling.
The Black Stars’ relentless pressure soon paid dividends.
Inaki Williams headed home a pinpoint cross from Kinglsey Schindler with a thumping header, fulfilling his pre-match pledge to score- his second goal in Ghana jersey.
Five minutes later, Jordan Ayew converted a penalty after Semenyo was fouled in the box. By halftime, Ghana led 3-0, with Chad failing to muster a single shot on target.
The second half mirrored the first in intensity. Mohammed Salisu doubled his season’s tally with a powerful header from Ernest Nuamah’s corner, while Nuamah himself sealed the rout with a composed finish after a slick backheel assist from Ayew.
Otto Addo’s team will prepare for the trip to Morocco to face Madagascar on Monday in what will be a crucial game to decide at least who will top the group until the qualifiers resume in September.
