PIAC unveils new logo, website

THE Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), has unveiled its new logo, as well as a redesigned website with an integrated data dashboard.
The introduction of these tools is in a bid to present the general public with the requisite information and fulfil its mandate of ensuring transparency and accountability in petroleum revenue management.
The Vice Chairman of the Committee, Nasir Alfa Mohammed, said that the three-fold mandate of PIAC, which are compliance monitoring, platform for public engagement and independent assessment is aimed at helping Ghana avoid the paradox of resource abundance.
He noted that PIAC’s work will be enhanced by further visibility to enable the public appreciate its impact.
“Although the Committee has been accustomed to using the Coat of Arms as its logo, and a website to enhance our work, it has become necessary to enhance the Committee’s work even better,” he said.
This desire to stand out in the public eye is what has culminated in the design and unveiling of a new lo which has incorporated the Coat of Arms a blade shade to symbolize the crude oil, an oil rig, and oil drop and a cedi sign as well PIAC’s corporate colours – gold and black.
The Chairman of the Committee, Professor Kwame Adom-Frimpong, noted that “PIAC has gradually but steadily become a relevant voice in the upstream Petroleum sector in Ghana.”
This steady growth has occurred in spite of limited resources made available for it to undertake its activities, and a limited understanding of its mandate, especially by the general public. He however expressed his pride in the appreciation of the value of the work done by his outfit, with interested parties looking forward eagerly to the publication of its reports.
He said, “for this enviable feat achieved in the midst of unfriendly circumstances, PIAC should be commended and supported to continue its good works.
Professor Adom-Frimpong, explained that the redesign of the website and the development of a data dashboard are not only to make relevant data more available to citizens, but to make it easier for citizens to give feedback to the Committee.
Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr John Kumah, assured the members of the Committee that government does not hold any negative views about their work, since their objective is to ensure that the nation does better with the oil resources.
He said, “we are always happy to receive those contributions from PIAC, and I want to encourage you to do more.”
