U20 World Cup winner Agyemang Badu impressed with current Black Satellites team

FIFA U20 World Cup winner Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has been impressed with the performance of the Black Satellites after the team finished second at the WAFU Zone B U20 Championship.

The Ghana U20 team suffered a 2-1 defeat in the final to Nigeria in Lomé, Togo, but booked their place at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations next year, making a return to the flagship championship for the first time since 2021.

Agyemang Badu, who won the WAFU, AFCON and FIFA U20 championships with Ghana, believes the current team has the potential to excel on the big stage.

“Yes I was well impressed with the team. I watched all their games against Benin, Togo, Niger and Nigeria as well. They have been playing well, they will go down and fight back and come and win games. I know Desmond, very good coach, well intelligent. They have qualified for the AFCON, we wanted to win the Cup, the WAFU,” he told 3 Sports.

“However, we couldn’t but finals is not that bad. We have qualified. Let’s keep supporting them to build a team that can win the AFCON,” he added.

“I wanted them to set the record we set in our time, win the WAFU, AFCON and the World Cup but they have lost one. However, all it’s not lost. We will prepare very well for the AFCON so we can qualify for the World Cup.”

Ghana last win the Africa U20 Championship in 2021, with Abdul Fatawu Issahaku of Leicester City, the best player of the competition in Mauritania.
