Bawumia proposes Opoku Prempeh as running mate for 2024 Elections

Sources close to the Presidency say, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has submitted the name of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the current Energy Minister, to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for approval as his running mate in the upcoming 2024 elections.

This significant decision was reportedly discussed during a meeting held on Tuesday, according to a source close to the office of the Vice President, told ZED Multimedia.

With the general Presidential and parliamentary elections just six months away, this development has captured considerable attention.

A recent report by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) highlights Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, as the preferred choice among NPP members for the position of running mate. The report underscores a strong consensus within the party’s ranks, particularly emphasizing the importance of selecting a candidate from the Ashanti region, a stronghold of the party.

Survey results from the NIB report indicate that Dr. Prempeh garnered an impressive 76.2% support from party executives, particularly from constituency and polling station executives, who formed the largest segments of the survey sample.

His closest contender, Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education and MP for the Bosomtwe constituency, received 10.1% of the responses, positioning him as the second most preferred choice.

As the NPP prepares for the 2024 elections, the proposed pairing of Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Prempeh is expected to shape the party’s strategy and campaign efforts.
