Being Alive Alone Is Enough for Me – Dr Cryme

Ghanaian rapper Darlington Agyekum, popularly known as Dr Cryme, has described himself as a spiritual person rather than a deeply religious individual, saying his relationship with God is personal and does not depend on physical presence in church.
Speaking in an interview on Highway 10.19 on ZED FM, the rapper said although he identifies as a Christian, he prefers to nurture a direct and private relationship with God.
“I love God. One thing I can say for sure is that even though I’m a Christian, I wouldn’t say I’m more religious. I am rather more spiritual,” he said.
Dr Cryme explained that he believes spirituality comes from within, while religious practices can sometimes become overly focused on outward expressions.
He said he does not need to be physically present in church or verbally express his prayers for others to recognise his faith.
“I don’t need to sit at the church to be able to pray any day, any time,” he said.
The rapper revealed that he often prays silently, including before interviews and other public engagements.
“Way before I was coming upstairs at the waiting room, I was praying in my head. I don’t need to use my mouth for people to see something,” he said.
He also explained that his preference for wearing a nose mask while at church is partly to maintain privacy during prayer.
“I don’t want nobody to even hear my prayer. It’s for me and God,” he said.
Reflecting on his biggest experience with God, Dr Cryme said simply being alive and having the opportunity to wake up each day remains his greatest blessing.
“The biggest thing that I’ve experienced with me and God is being alive alone is enough,” he said.
According to the rapper, wealth, fame and material possessions mean little if a person does not have the opportunity to enjoy life.
“A lot of people want this opportunity, but with all their riches and all their worth and all their fame, they are not on this earth,” he said.
Dr Cryme also reflected on his childhood ambitions and the significance of his name, Darlington, which he said was uncommon while he was growing up.
“I couldn’t measure the magnitude of how extensive my name will be, but I knew that I was going to do something significant,” he said.
He added that although he could not have predicted the scale of his eventual career, he always believed he was destined to make an impact.
