Mumin Denies Girona Move as Ghana Defender Searches for New Club

Ghana defender Abdul Mumin has rejected reports linking him with a move to Spanish La Liga side Girona, describing the latest transfer claims as “fake news” as he continues his search for a new club.
The report claimed Mumin had recently been training in Vigo and had failed a medical with Celta, a development that had allegedly complicated other potential moves in Spain. It further suggested Girona were prepared to take the physical and financial risk of signing the centre-back.
Mumin, however, moved quickly to reject the claims. Responding to the report on X, the defender simply wrote: “Fake news.” His response appears to dismiss both the reported medical issue and the suggestion that negotiations with Girona are currently progressing.
The denial comes after several reports had previously placed Mumin on the radar of clubs across Spain. Girona, Getafe and Osasuna were identified as leading contenders for the defender after his contract with Rayo Vallecano expired. Other clubs in France, England and Major League Soccer have also reportedly been monitoring his situation.
Mumin’s departure from Rayo followed a difficult period that included a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in March 2025. The injury kept him out for more than a year before he returned late in the 2025-26 campaign. He made three La Liga appearances after recovering and was subsequently included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. The 28-year-old joined Rayo in 2022 from Vitória Guimarães and established himself as a dependable central defender in Spain. His contract situation changed after he rejected a reduced renewal offer from Rayo, allowing him to leave without a transfer fee.
