Amaarae draws the line on hygiene

Ghanaian American singer Amaarae has revealed that she no longer eats at other people’s homes due to concerns about hygiene, an attitude shaped by a memorable incident that left a lasting impression.
Speaking candidly, the ‘Sad Girls Love Money’ hitmaker explained that her strict personal hygiene standards make it difficult for her to eat at gatherings or in homes that do not meet those expectations.
According to her, one of the most unsettling moments occurred during a barbecue when she saw someone washing lettuce in a bathroom sink.
“I went to a barbecue and saw the owner of the house washing lettuce in their bathroom sink. That was when I said, I will never eat at anybody’s house again,” she shared, describing the experience as a turning point.
Amaarae also expressed broader concerns about hygiene habits she finds unacceptable. She criticized the practice of walking around while brushing teeth and mixing bathroom habits with bedroom spaces.
“If you’re brushing your teeth, stay in the bathroom. Don’t come into the bedroom. Some people walk around while brushing. I think that is disgusting,” she remarked.
She emphasized that cleanliness is a top priority in her own home and expects visitors to respect her rules. This includes disposing of items like toothpicks in the kitchen trash rather than in bedroom or bathroom bins.
Touching on kitchen hygiene, Amaarae urged the use of separate sponges for plates and wine glasses to avoid contamination and lingering food smells.
“Don’t use the same sponge for plates and wine glasses. Use separate sponges because if you don’t, your glasses are going to smell like food,” she warned.
Amaarae, known for her bold fashion and outspoken nature, noted that these habits are part of her personal boundaries and lifestyle choices.
She added that her approach to hygiene is not about being overly critical but about maintaining a space that reflects her standards of cleanliness and self-respect.
