MobileMoney Targets Cashless Transport System

MobileMoney Limited has launched the Ride With MoMo initiative to help commercial drivers and transport operators access affordable digital payment solutions, improve business management and create a more convenient payment experience for both drivers and passengers.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Chief Commercial Operations Officer of MobileMoney Limited, Abdul Razak Issaka Ali, said the initiative is aimed at introducing transport operators to merchant payment services that are specifically designed to support businesses.
He explained that the initiative seeks to encourage commercial drivers and riders who currently use personal mobile money wallets to move to merchant services, which provide a more suitable platform for businesses and offer relatively lower transaction charges.
According to Mr. Issaka Ali, the merchant solution will enable drivers to enjoy the benefits associated with operating a digital business account while improving the efficiency of their daily transactions.
“The reason we are launching the service is that we know a lot of drivers currently use the regular MoMo app, but we want to move them into the merchant space because the charges on the merchant platform are much lower and designed for businesses,” he said.
He noted that while digital payment services come with operational costs, the introduction of merchant solutions provides businesses with a more affordable option to manage transactions and grow their operations.
Mr. Issaka Ali said registration for the service is simple and free, requiring interested drivers to present their Ghana Card and, where available, a business certificate at any MTN office or through designated agents. He emphasized that there are no charges associated with registering for the merchant service.
He also encouraged passengers to embrace the Ride With MoMo service, explaining that it will make transport payments easier and eliminate challenges associated with cash transactions, particularly the difficulty of finding change after paying fares.
According to him, passengers who use digital payments will enjoy a more seamless transport experience since fares can be paid conveniently through MoMo without the need for physical cash.
Addressing concerns about fraud and security, Mr. Issaka Ali said trust remains a key priority for MobileMoney Limited. He explained that the company continues to educate customers on fraud prevention measures while collaborating with relevant authorities to address reported cases of fraudulent activities.
He added that customer education will remain an important part of the initiative to ensure users understand the safety measures required to protect themselves while using digital payment services.
