The Nanumba North Municipal Assembly in the Northern Region has received 1,000 bags of NPK fertiliser under the government’s Feed Ghana programme to support farmers and boost agricultural production in the municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Abdul Somed Hamza Gurundow, announced the development during the Assembly’s first ordinary meeting, where he appealed to assembly members to support the successful implementation of the initiative by educating farmers and residents on its benefits.

According to the MCE, the Feed Ghana programme has generated widespread interest within the agricultural sector and is expected to contribute significantly to increased productivity and improved food security in the municipality.

“Farmers are looking up to the government and its collaborators in the agriculture sector. The Feed Ghana programme has dominated discussions within the agric sector across the country, and the municipality is no exception,” Mr. Gurundow said.

He assured the Assembly that implementation of the programme would begin in earnest during the current farming season, noting that the municipality had already taken delivery of the initial consignment of fertiliser.

“I am assuring you that the programme will commence in earnest this farming season. Another 500 bags of urea are expected to be delivered soon for distribution, and I urge members to sensitise beneficiaries in your various electoral areas to exhibit a high level of honesty to ensure the sustainability of the intervention,” he stated.

Mr. Gurundow emphasised that the success of the programme would depend not only on the timely distribution of inputs but also on the cooperation of assembly members and beneficiary farmers in ensuring accountability throughout the process.

Assembly members welcomed the government’s intervention, describing it as a timely measure to support farmers and improve crop yields. However, they stressed the need for transparency and fairness in the distribution of the fertiliser to ensure that the intended beneficiaries receive the inputs.

The members expressed confidence that the Feed Ghana programme would strengthen agricultural production, improve food availability and contribute to the local economy. They further urged all stakeholders involved in the implementation of the initiative to uphold accountability and fairness to guarantee the long-term success and sustainability of the intervention.
