Solar Africa Expo Launched to Drive Renewable Energy Investment

Africa Energy Indaba has announced the launch of the Solar Africa Expo, a dedicated exhibition platform aimed at accelerating the growth of solar energy and expanding the continent’s renewable energy ecosystem.

The new initiative, which will form part of the broader Africa Energy Indaba exhibition, is expected to serve as a major marketplace for solar technologies, investment opportunities and industry collaboration. Organisers say the platform will bring together leading solar technology providers, engineering, procurement and construction contractors, project developers, financiers, battery storage companies, manufacturers and energy innovators from across Africa and beyond.

Speaking on the launch, Managing Director of Africa Energy Indaba, Liz Hart, said solar energy had become a critical component of Africa’s energy future.

“Solar energy is no longer an alternative energy source; it is a central pillar of Africa’s energy future. The launch of the Solar Africa Expo reflects the growing demand for a dedicated platform where industry leaders can connect, collaborate, and drive the deployment of solar solutions that will support economic growth, energy security, and sustainability across the continent,” she said.

The expo is expected to create a platform for direct engagement between solution providers and key stakeholders, including governments, utilities, municipalities, infrastructure developers, mining companies and industrial energy users.

The launch comes at a time when many countries across Sub-Saharan Africa continue to face significant energy challenges, including frequent power outages, load shedding and limited access to reliable electricity, particularly in rural communities. Rising urbanisation and growing economic activity have further increased pressure on ageing electricity infrastructure.

Industry experts note that solar power is increasingly emerging as one of the most viable solutions to Africa’s energy challenges due to its affordability, scalability and ability to provide decentralized power generation. Falling costs of photovoltaic panels and battery storage systems have also accelerated the adoption of solar technologies by governments, businesses and local communities.

Organisers believe the Solar Africa Expo will play a crucial role in attracting investment, promoting innovation and strengthening partnerships across the renewable energy value chain. They say the platform will help unlock financing opportunities, facilitate technology transfer and support the development of sustainable energy systems capable of meeting Africa’s growing power needs while advancing environmental and economic goals.
