MobileMoney Fintech Calls for Unified Action to Tackle Rising Digital Fraud

MobileMoney Fintech Ghana Limited has issued a strong call for industry-wide collaboration to address growing concerns over digital fraud in Ghana’s financial technology ecosystem.

This follows the release of a new strategic white paper titled “Uniting Against Digital Fraud: Strengthening Ecosystem Collaboration in Ghana’s Digital Financial Services Sector,” which outlines emerging risks in the rapidly expanding digital payments space and proposes coordinated solutions to enhance system security.

Rising fraud risks in a fast-growing digital economy

The paper highlights that Ghana’s expanding digital financial services sector, while improving financial inclusion and transaction efficiency, has also become increasingly exposed to sophisticated fraud schemes.

According to the report, digital fraud is no longer an isolated challenge affecting individual institutions, but a systemic threat requiring coordinated responses across the entire financial ecosystem.

Stakeholders are therefore urged to adopt a more intelligence-driven and collaborative approach to fraud prevention, supported by faster information sharing and stronger digital safeguards.

Stakeholder collaboration seen as key solution

The white paper draws on discussions from the MobileMoney Fintech Partner Exchange, a high-level stakeholder forum held in April 2026, which brought together regulators, financial institutions, telecom operators, fintech firms, law enforcement agencies and mobile money agent networks.

Key recommendations from the engagement include:

  • Establishment of joint coordination mechanisms across the ecosystem
  • Strengthening of intelligence-sharing frameworks among stakeholders
  • Acceleration of secure digital infrastructure and fraud prevention tools
  • Expanded consumer and agent education on fraud awareness and prevention

The document stresses that effective fraud control depends on collective action rather than isolated institutional responses.

Leadership calls for shared responsibility

Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech Ghana Limited, Shaibu Haruna, emphasized that the sustainability of Ghana’s digital financial system depends on trust, collaboration and coordinated security efforts.

“The continued growth of Ghana’s digital financial ecosystem depends not only on innovation and access, but also on our collective ability to protect the integrity of the system,” he said.

“This white paper reflects a shared recognition that ecosystem security must be approached as a collective responsibility, anchored in collaboration, trust, and coordinated action.”

Strengthening trust in digital finance

MobileMoney Fintech said the publication reaffirms its commitment to working with both public and private sector actors to strengthen resilience in the digital payments space and protect consumer confidence.

The company noted that maintaining trust in digital platforms is essential for sustaining growth in mobile money usage, which has become a key driver of financial inclusion and cashless transactions in Ghana.

It added that the white paper is intended to guide ongoing industry discussions and support the development of long-term solutions that enhance security, reduce fraud exposure and reinforce confidence in Ghana’s digital economy.

As digital transactions continue to expand across the country, stakeholders say the focus is shifting from access and adoption to security, integrity and sustainable ecosystem governance.
