STC Appeals for Patience as Company Awaits New Buses

The State Transport Company (STC) has assured passengers that the long delays being experienced at some of its terminals are only temporary as the company works to improve operations and expand its fleet nationwide.
The assurance comes after growing public concern over prolonged waiting hours and the condition of some buses operating on various routes across the country. The concerns gained attention following a viral video on social media in which frustrated passengers complained about delays and what they described as poor service delivery at some STC terminals.
Responding to the concerns, Deputy Managing Director in charge of Finance and Administration, Nuru Hamidan, explained that the delays are largely linked to the company’s strict safety procedures aimed at protecting passengers and ensuring that buses remain roadworthy.
According to him, STC places a strong emphasis on safety standards, which distinguishes the company from many other transport operators in the country. He noted that every bus that completes a trip is taken through a thorough inspection process before it is cleared to return to the road.
“We have standards that we follow. What differentiates us from other buses is safety. Whenever a bus offloads passengers, it goes straight to the workshop for proper checks before it hits the road again,” he stated.
Mr. Hamidan acknowledged that the company is currently facing operational challenges due to a limited number of buses available for daily services.
He admitted that the shortage has affected service delivery and contributed to the long waiting hours experienced by passengers at some terminals.
Despite the current difficulties, he assured customers that management is taking steps to improve the situation and reduce delays across the country.
As part of efforts to strengthen operations, STC says it expects about 120 new buses to be added to its fleet before the end of the year.
Management believes the additional buses will significantly improve transportation services, ease congestion at terminals, and reduce pressure on the company’s existing fleet.
The company also disclosed that it is currently relying on alliance partnerships with other transport operators to help manage passenger demand while awaiting the arrival of the new buses.
STC further appealed to passengers to remain patient and continue cooperating with staff as measures are put in place to improve efficiency, maintain safety standards, and provide better transport services nationwide.
