WiFT Ghana Led by Juliet Ibrahim Heads to Cannes Film Festival in France

Ghana is set to take center stage at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival as a delegation of Ghanaian women in film, television, and media prepares to participate in one of the world’s biggest cinema gatherings.

The delegation will be led by actress, producer, and President of WiFT Ghana, Juliet Ibrahim, who will represent Ghana as part of a larger African movement focused on increasing visibility, access, and influence for women in the global film industry.

The Ghanaian delegation forms part of an initiative by Women in Film and Television Africa in partnership with Women in Film Los Angeles. The collaboration is bringing women creatives from 10 African countries to Cannes to amplify African storytelling and strengthen industry connections.

At the festival, the delegation will participate in the Marché du Film, the business platform of the Cannes Film Festival where international producers, distributors, financiers, and studios negotiate partnerships and investment opportunities.

The initiative is expected to provide Ghanaian creatives with direct access to global industry networks, funding opportunities, and international distribution channels.

For Ghana’s growing creative industry, the participation represents more than international exposure. It reflects the increasing role of women in shaping the future of African cinema and building stronger industry structures across the continent.

Through WiFT Ghana, Juliet Ibrahim has been actively promoting mentorship, training, and professional development within the local film industry. Her leadership at Cannes highlights Ghana’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women in film both locally and internationally.

The delegation also reflects a broader shift across Africa, where women are increasingly leading creative organisations, building collaborative networks, and creating platforms to support emerging talent.

For the Ghanaian team, the goal is to represent the country, establish strategic connections, and return with opportunities that can contribute to the growth of the local film and television industry.

Their participation sends a strong message that Ghana is not only joining global cinema conversations but doing so with structure, purpose, and women at the forefront.
