Ghana Secures World Championships Spot in 4x100m Relay

Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team has made history after securing qualification for the World Athletics Championships for the fourth consecutive time, underlining the country’s growing strength in sprint relays on the global stage.

The team produced a composed and competitive performance to finish second behind China in a time of 38.09 seconds, earning the final automatic qualification slot for next year’s championships in Beijing.

The result continues Ghana’s strong tradition in sprint relays and confirms their place among the world’s leading relay nations.

The quartet featured a tactical reshuffle aimed at maximizing speed and smooth baton exchanges. Edwin Gadayi, who had run the anchor leg in their previous outing on Saturday, was deployed to the opening leg to provide a fast start. National 100m record holder Abdul Rasheed Saminu was assigned the anchor leg, tasked with closing out the race strongly against elite international competition.

Benjamin Azamati and Joseph Paul Amoah completed the lineup, contributing to a coordinated and disciplined team effort.

The adjustment in order proved effective as Ghana maintained competitive positioning throughout the race, executing clean baton exchanges and staying within reach of the leaders before securing second place.

The qualification marks another significant milestone for the team, which has consistently represented Ghana at the highest level of global athletics in recent years. It also reflects the depth of sprinting talent currently available to the national team.

With the World Championships secured, attention now shifts to continental competition. Ghana will next compete at the African Athletics Championships, scheduled to be hosted in Accra in May. The home advantage is expected to provide additional motivation as the team continues preparations for major international competitions.
