CAF Members Endorse Infantino for FIFA Re-Election
The Confederation of African Football has thrown its full weight behind Gianni Infantino, unanimously endorsing the Swiss administrator for re-election as president of FIFA for the 2027–2031 term in a significant show of continental unity and political influence.
The decision was reached during a meeting of CAF Member Associations held in Vancouver on April 29, under the leadership of CAF president Patrice Motsepe.
All 54 member associations reportedly backed Infantino’s candidacy, sending a clear signal of Africa’s collective stance ahead of the next FIFA presidential election.
As one of the largest and most influential voting blocs within FIFA, Africa’s endorsement represents a major advantage for Infantino as he positions himself for another term at the helm of global football.
The support reflects not only strong diplomatic ties between FIFA and CAF but also recognition of initiatives introduced during Infantino’s presidency that have directly impacted football development across the African continent.
Since assuming office in 2016, Infantino has overseen sweeping reforms in world football, many of which have been welcomed in Africa.
Among the most notable is the expansion of the FIFA World Cup from 32 to 48 teams, a move that significantly increases Africa’s representation on football’s biggest stage.
The continent has also benefited from enhanced investment through FIFA Forward programmes, which have provided substantial funding for infrastructure development, grassroots football, and federation support.
Despite continued debate surrounding FIFA’s term-limit regulations and whether Infantino’s initial partial term counts toward the three-term cap, CAF’s endorsement suggests that Africa remains firmly aligned with his leadership vision.
The next FIFA presidential election will be held during the 77th FIFA Congress in Morocco in 2027, where Infantino is expected to seek another mandate.
With unanimous backing from CAF, his campaign has received a powerful early boost—one that reinforces Africa’s growing voice in shaping the future of global football governance.
