Wolves relegated after West Ham Draw at Palace

The front doors at Wolves’ Compton training ground gave way one Friday afternoon, briefly locking staff out before the issue was resolved. It was a moment that neatly captured the club’s troubled season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have spent much of the campaign trying to fix what has been broken. Since taking charge in November, head coach Rob Edwards has attempted to steady the club, but the task proved too great.
Relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Monday following West Ham United’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace. Wolves have been rooted to the bottom since the third week of the season, managing just three wins.
Despite a difficult campaign, there is a quiet sense of optimism within the club that better days may lie ahead. That optimism, however, contrasts sharply with the steady decline that has led to this point.
Fan protests against owners Fosun International and former executive chairman Jeff Shi highlighted long standing frustrations. Discontent spilled into the stands during a poor start to the season, underlining deeper structural issues.
At the heart of Wolves’ struggles has been their recruitment. The failure to adequately replace key departures including Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves, Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri has left the squad short on quality and experience.
Recent signings have failed to make the desired impact. Several arrivals have already moved on, while others have struggled to break into the team. The club’s transfer strategy has come under scrutiny, particularly after losing key players without bringing in proven Premier League replacements.
Since the exit of Nuno Espirito Santo in 2021, Wolves have gone through a series of managerial changes, including spells under Julen Lopetegui and Gary O’Neil. Stability has been elusive, contributing to their gradual slide down the table.
